Monhegan Paintings

Series of acrylic on board paintings based on experiences from years of visiting a small island off the coast of Maine. Begun spring of 2020. Exhibited as part of Helms Projecting Possibilities in Winter of 2021, and at Lupine Gallery on Monhegan Summer of 2021.

Designed to assemble into a "quilt" of images, dimensions:12" square or 12" x 24"

For years I have collected rusty metal objects and fragments. Like a crow, drawn to shiny objects, I began applying gold-leaf over the rust. The rust/gold objects found their place when I used the wood-burning technique "Shou Sugi Ban" on a stack of wooden wine crates. Thinking about what we throw away and what we value as the world drowns in our discarded material. This project is in development.

Ongoing Ropes Project

Originally conceived as a scenic element for a dream sequence in a play about a South Asian woman coming to terms with her past, I continue to make these sari-silk wrapped ropes, with brass connecting hardware. Created to be installed anywhere in different configurations responding to place. They have been wrapped around boulders near Joshua Tree and installed in the long hallway of the historic Helms Building. Next stop Ojai, CA and across a drainage ditch in West Los Angeles.

Work in series. Handmade Japanese paper, pieced and sewn with metallic gold thread.

Pandemic Drawings 2020

Drawing spirals and ellipses is my studio warm-up. When the city's lock-down began and my theatre work came to a halt, I went into the studio and commenced this series almost accidently. Most of these pieces were sold via social media to benefit a homeless youth services organization in Hollywood called "My Friend's Place."
